South Carolina and Georgia

Arrive in Charleston where you will spend the next few days exploring this charming and vibrant coastal town in South Carolina.  Stay in the historic quarter of the city and explore the cobble streets, colonial and antebellum homes, museums and fantastic food.  You can even stand in the very spot the first shot of the Civil War was fired.  As a coastal town, it has a maze of waterways and islands and beaches. Kayak, paddle board, or take a private vintage boat up the coast to Capers Island where a drink and the sunset will be ready for your arrival.

Today you will drive south stopping at the fishing port Beaufort for a seafood lunch.  In the afternoon continue to St Helena Island, part of a collection of islands where Gullah history and culture began.  The Gullah are the descendants from the African slave trade who were bought to the low-lying coast to grow rice.  It was here where Martin Luther King penned his “I have a dream” speech and where the first school for freed slaves was opened.  Continue further south to Savannah, a unique town made around a series of oak filled squares.  With a local guide explore at your own pace the charming and laid back town.

For the last four nights, relax on the beautiful St. Simon’s Island, part of Georgia’s Golden Isles.  Relax on the beach at a luxurious hotel with everything you could want.  If you want to explore the area, there is much to do including the vast salt marshes.

Today, drive south to Jacksonville Airport and board the flight to Atlanta where you connect onto the direct London flight, 10hrs 45mins.
