Itinerary

Day 1 - 3 - London - Johannesburg - Antananarivo - Manafiafy
Arrive at Johannesburg where you will connect onto a flight to Antananarivo, Madagascar. Here you will be met and transferred to a small boutique hotel where you will spend one night. The next morning you will board a flight to Fort Dauphin. Upon arrival a driver will take you to your hotel is situated on a beautiful white sandy bay, fringed with forest covered mountains and mangroves. Activities include whale watching, canoeing, early morning boat trips to see wetland birds, day and night walks in the forest, where there are five species of lemur, and snorkelling in the bay or the cove.

Day 4 - 6 - Manafiafy - Motaka
This morning you will take a chartered plane and be flown South-West of Manafiafy to Motaka where you will stay for the next three nights in your lovely accommodation on the river. Go on a drive to the Sacred Gallery forests to the south of the camp. These forests are deciduous, mainly tamarind, and full of wildlife, including large groups of ring-tailed lemurs. In the afternoon head up to enjoy sun-downers at the baobabs, watching the sunset and moonrise with a view across the baobabs to the mountains beyond, a magical experience.

Day 7 - 8 - Motaka - Antananarivo - Andasibe
Eastern Madagascar is entirely different to the landscape you have experienced in the west and the south-east of the country. Here the humid climate supports primary forest and lakes. On the way, stop in Pyereras Reptile Park to see farmed chameleons and other reptiles. Overnight in a comfortable forest lodge.

Day 9 - 10 - Andasibe - Antananarivo
Visit the Andasibe National Park where you will see the Indri Indri, the largest of the lemurs with its haunting call. The 800 hectare reserve has unique, endemic, fauna and flora. It contains a wide variety of orchids, all sorts of chameleons, tenrecs (small, long-nosed insect eater), and many species of bird. Drive back to Antananarivo where you will spend the night in a boutique hotel.

Day 11 - 12 - MORONDAVA - TSIRIBIHINA - BELO - BEKOPAKA
Today is an adventure of travelling to get to what is called “Madagascar profonde”, deep Madagascar, into the dry red-earthed African bush side, west of the country. Here you experience the real life of Malagasy people in this, the driest region.

Day 13 - 14 - BEKOPAKA - MORONDAVA
You will spend the day returning to Morondava with optional stops along the way. These can include a canoe excursion, the Reserve Forestiere de Kirindy and at sunset stop by the highly photogenic Allee Des Baobabs.

Day 15 - 17 - MORONDAVA - ANTANANARIVO - ANJAJAVY
Anjajavy epitomises what many people are looking for when they come to Madagascar – baobabs, the etherial landscape of Tsingy Nature Reserve, mammals, birds, reptiles, and semi-dry forest with endemic species.

Day 18 - 19 - ANJAJAVY - ANTANANARIVO - JOHANNESBURG - LONDON
Return journey to London via Antananarivo and Johannesburg.
