Desert, Coast And Mountains

Once arrived in Muscat, meet your guide and driver and begin the adventure by driving along the scenic coastal road south to Sur and then onto the Hajar Mountains.  Reach the Selma Plateau for a bite to eat and admire the magnificent views.  Continue to Wahiba Sands Desert where a luxury mobile camp has been prepared for your arrival.

Today drive out of the desert to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the greatest, most dramatic wadis in Oman, a green oasis spectacularly set against a mountain back drop.  Learn about the history and present day of the local villagers. After a picnic lunch, either go on a sand dune 4×4 tour or try your hand at sand boarding.33

This morning you will be driven 100km to the coast, crossing the Wahiba sands.  Your camp will be set on a sand spit between a lagoon where you can often see flamingo.44

Today have time to sit back and relax.  Choose from a variety activities such as snorkelling, swimming and fishing.  Or if you are a birder, a must is to visit the Barr al Hickman salt pans, home to sea and migratory birds.

This morning travel inland, stopping at a traditional Souq where Bedouins have come to do business for centuries.  Continue to Nizwa, Oman’s former capital and a fascinating place.  After lunch, make the final leg of the journey high up in the mountains where sundowners will be served before a traditional dinner.

Today a trek has been arranged to visit the local area including carpet weavers and their work.  Spend the afternoon either continuing to hike to the summit of the mountain, or rest in camp.

This morning, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bahla, a town famous for its old fort and pottery.  Then wind back down the mountain going off road for part of the journey.  Before reaching Muscat, make a stop at Rustaq, a town where the main occupation is bee keeping, producing the finest honey in Oman.

Transfer to Muscat Airport in time for the return flight to London.
